We will be taking part in a memorial effort requested by the National Park Service and encouraged by Presiding Bishop Michael Curry, to sound chimes across the country on August 25. At 3 PM our Deagan tower chimes will toll for one minute to honor and remember the first enslaved Africans who landed in English North America 400 years ago in 1619. “With bells tolling across America, we pause to lament the centuries of grief of slavery and racism in our land,” said Marianne Edgar Budde, Bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of Washington.
