David L. Riffer, age 87, of Maumee, Ohio, passed peacefully on July 10, 2024, at Hospice of Northwest Ohio in Toledo. Born July 22, 1936, in Greenville, Pa. to the late Laird and Nina (Martin) Riffer, he graduated from Greenville High School in 1954 and went on to earn his bachelor’s degree in business management in 1958from Thiel College in Greenville. Dave went on to serve for 6 years in the United States Army Reserve.

Highly intelligent and possessing a strong work ethic, Dave had a long, successful career in information services. He worked for 14 years with GATX where he was the Director of Management Information Services, and he later retired from Penske (the former Rollins Co.) in 1997 after 13 years of service as the Chief Information Officer and Vice President of Information Services.

In his free time, Dave enjoyed playing golf, riding his bike, taking long walks, watching sports and boating. His greatest joy was sharing time with his beloved family, especially his grandchildren. Above all, Dave will be remembered as the guy who always had something to say, whether it be a story of a real-life experience with a nugget of wisdom or a quick-witted joke that made everyone in the room chuckle. He will also be remembered for his sound financial advice, as he was known as the “go-to” guy for such things, and for his thriftiness that made him fix things around the house.

Dave married Sherry L. (Blanchard) Riffer on June 3, 1958, and they shared 66 wonderful years together. She lovingly survives him along with their two children, David (Eileen) Riffer and Kathy Coykendall; five grandchildren, Alexis, Austin and Alyse Riffer, Oz Kujawa (Lukin) and Nicole Leu (Brandon); and great grandson, Ryder Leu. His brother, William Riffer, also preceded him in death.

Family and friends are invited to honor Dave’s life on Saturday, July 13, 2024, from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. in the Witzler-Shank-Walker Funeral Home, 222 E. South Boundary Street, Perrysburg, Oh 43551. Dave will be privately laid to rest in Youngstown, Ohio.
