<br>It is agreed that we should all like to see larger newspapers, but I must contradict the extravagant line taken by some commentators that we are the worst informed newspaper reading public in the world. My own impression is that they were originally asked to step up to about 71½ per cent. Now, I understand, some of them are able, if permitted, to go above that figure. I understand, from my own inquiries, that their difficulties arise chiefly from the provision of raw materials for the mill, in some cases pulp and in one case logs. If it is possible to step up the raw materials, the British Press can obtain more material from the home mills. I hope the Government will be able to make some announcement on encouraging increased production in the home mills.<br>

manufacture Newsprint and Printing & Writing Paper from Virgin Pulp as
well as Non-Conventional raw materials.<br>

<br>Paper fibres can only be recycled up to about 7 times as they increasingly degrade in the recycling process, eventually losing their papermaking qualities. The degraded fibres are replaced with new virgin fibres, either from trees or more often from recovered paper that has not previously been recycled. Without virgin fibres from new trees, the paper cycle can neither begin nor continue.<br>

at Grindleford. The exceptional wearing qualities of Stoke pulp stones
found a market in Canada, America and Scandinavia, a profitable
diversification in the old-established export trade in Peak
